How to Keep Sunglasses From Slipping Down Your Nose

Is there anything more annoying than your favorite pair of sunglasses slipping down your nose on a hot and sweaty day? Here at Fuse Lenses, we’re based in sunny Clearwater, Florida so we understand the struggle! Sweat is one of those things that can ruin the experience of wearing an otherwise great pair of sunglasses, so in this post, we are going to list our tips and hacks that’ll prevent your shades from ever slipping down your face again!

What Causes My Glasses to Slip?

      1. Sweat

You might be asking yourself, “why do my frames always slip down my face? Why can’t they just stay put?” and we’re glad you asked! Whether you’re playing sports, going for a run, sun tanning, or even just going about your daily activities, you’ve probably noticed your sunglasses or glasses sliding down your face. Although sweat is a major culprit of why this happens, there’s other factors that can cause the slippage too… maybe it’s the fit of the frame, the tightness of the screws, the weight of the lenses, or a variety of other possibilities. No matter the cause though, you must admit it can be pretty annoying not having your glasses stay put.

       2. Loose Screws

Another reason your glasses may be slipping could be due to the hinge screws of your sunglasses. Over time, when we’re constantly putting our glasses on and taking them off, the screws loosen up. This is 100% normal, but unfortunately it does make for a wider and much more loose fit. An easy hack to fix this is to take a small screwdriver, find the screw at the hinge of the frames, tighten them and they’ll be as good as new! Or maybe it’s a fit-related slipping issue where the bridge or the arms of your glasses are bent out of shape. To see if this is the case, simply put your glasses on a flat surface and if you notice the lenses or arms aren’t level with each other, there’s your answer. If you have misshaped metal frames, just gently bend the arm down on the side where it’s too high. If your glasses are made of a less pliable material like plastic, you can aim a blow dryer at the hinge for 15-20 seconds, which makes It more malleable. Very carefully bend it and there you have it! You have perfectly fit frames that won’t slip any longer!

      4. Ill-fitting Glasses

It's also possible that your sunglasses simply don’t fit your face or nose. If you have a slender or even a flatter nose, you may need to look for sunglasses with adjustable nose pads vs frames that don’t. This way, you can adjust your nose pads to fit your nose so that they sit nice and snug. If you’re not into the nose pads, you’ll want sunnies that fit your nose on the right spot or else they will also slip. You’d be surprised at how much the fit of your glasses can affect their slippage.

         5. Wrong for your lifestyle

One final thing to consider is that it’s possible that your frame style just isn’t right for your lifestyle. Wearing fashion-forward glasses while doing something active can also cause slipping. You may want to get glasses with rubber nose pads or are made for activities. How To Stop Them from Slipping

      1. Waxing

If you don’t find yourself having any of the main causes of your glasses slipping though, you can try waxing the nose pads. Waxing adds a layer of friction between your glasses and your skin and keeps them from slipping. Or you can opt for silicone ear hooks that grip the back of your ears and add an extra layer of anti-slipping support.

      2. Cleaning

When you’re outdoors regularly, sweat, sunscreen and lotion build up over time and tend to make the frames and nose pads of your sunglasses greasy, so be sure you’re cleaning them regularly and this will help with preventing them from falling. All you need is a wet rag and some mild soap! If you’d like to learn more about cleaning your sunglasses, click here to check out our blog post that talks all about how to care for and clean your shades!

    3. New Shades!

There is also a likelihood that your glasses are slipping due to them being too heavy. Luckily, at Fuse Lenses we’re prepared to help you with that! Most frames and lenses are made of heavy materials like metal and glass, which tend to weigh down your shades. Here at Fuse though, our frames and lenses are made of lightweight and flexible materials! If you’d like to know more about what we do for you here at Fuse Lenses, click here to read our post all about it!
