Florida Is the Best State

Florida always seems to be the butt of the joke for many people. It is the swing states that usually always decide presidential elections. It is a humid, hurricane infested state while the rest of the country is freezing. The headlines in Florida can be so crazy, that they even made a game out of it. (Search Florida Man plus your birthday, if you’re interested). These might be some of the negative things Florida may be known for, but overall, we think Florida is the best state.

Weather

Florida is known as the sunshine state and, as you might be able to tell from the state’s nickname, Florida has year-long sunshine. In the winter, you won’t have to shovel snow out of your driveway or scrape it off your windshield. You don’t have to turn up the heater and keep the fireplace burning. “Winter” in Florida is a couple of days a year when the temperature at night drops to 40 degrees Fahrenheit and climb up to the low 60’s during the day.

In Florida, you can wear tank tops, shorts, and opened toed shoes pretty much all year round. The nice weather in Florida attracts a lot of spring breakers but that’s because it is still snowing in the rest of the country during spring break. Floridians live where many people usually vacation.

Beaches

According to the Florida Public Service Commission, Florida has 663 miles of beaches, with a total Coastline of 1,197 miles. This is more coastline than California and Hawaii. Alaska is actually the only state that has a bigger coastline than Florida, but who wants to go swimming in freezing Alaska?

Just beyond the coast of the mainland, Key West is a paradise ready to be explored. South Beach is also a popular location to enjoy the waves and then hit up the nightlife afterward. Clearwater beach, the home beach of Fuse Lenses, can’t be forgotten. It is located between the waters of the Gulf of Mexico and Tampa Bay. Whichever beach you decide to visit, you’ll fall in love. But why take our word for it when you can find out for yourself?

Theme Parks and Attractions

Orlando, Florida is the hot spot for all the theme parks in Florida. It has Disney World, the most magical place on Earth, as well as Universal Studios and SeaWorld. There are not only theme parks in Orlando, but all throughout Florida as well. There are various attractions like Busch Gardens, Legoland, the Florida State Fair and more. There seems to be an amusement park that caters to almost any interest someone might have. The good weather might be another reason why attractions and theme parks are constantly popping up here.

Let loose the inner child in your by exploring the attractions Florida has to offer.

Diversity

Florida is a state that has a lot of diversity in age, culture and believes. This diversity might cause a lot of the negative things Florida is known for, like being a swing state.

There are a lot of senior citizens that like to retire in Florida. Florida also has a large immigrant population, in particular, those of Hispanic origin. The beliefs of people who live in large metropolitan areas differ from those who live in the rural part of Florida.

Not only is Florida diverse with its people, but it is also diverse in its landscape and wildlife. You have the tropic-like weather of the keys and other beach towns. The swampy Everglades with its wide range of animals. There are also certain parts of Florida with really fertile soil that produces oranges, and orange juice, to the rest of the country. Strawberries and sugarcane also grow really well in certain parts of Florida.

Just driving a couple of hours in Florida might make you feel like you are in an entirely different state, both culturally and physically.

Food

Have you ever had a Cuban sandwich? What about Key Lime pie? If you are familiar with the store Publix, you might also be familiar with their pub subs. What do all these things have in common? These are foods that were founded in Florida.

The Cuban sandwich consists of ham, roast pork, Swiss cheese, pickles and yellow mustard on Cuban bread. This sandwich originated in Tampa in the late 1800s by Cuban immigrants and now it has become one of the staple foods of Miami.

Key Lime pie is a dessert that consists of dessert consists of egg yolks, canned or sweetened condensed milk and, key limes. It is also a staple of summertime parties everywhere.

The first Publix, which is an amazing grocery store, first popped up in Winter Haven, Florida in 1930. So if you enjoy a delicious chicken tender pub-sub or any Publix sub for that matter, thank Florida.

Sport Teams

If sports are your thing, Florida has a wide selection of sports team to chose from. If you're into hockey, the Tampa Bay Lighting has been shredding the ice. In basketball, there is the Miami Heat and the Orlando Magic. The Heat was on a roll for 2011 to 2013. In football, we have the Miami Dolphins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Jacksonville Jaguars. Are these three teams considered the best in the league? No, but the Jags came close back in 2017 when they finished as division champions. And the Bucs have a really cool stadium with a pirate ship and cannons. Are you into baseball? May I recommend the Tampa Bay Rays? After the 2007 season when the Rays underwent a rebranding, their game definitely improved. So whatever your sport might be, we have options down in Florida. If you don’t like sports, that’s okay too, because Florida has all these other great stuff too.

Honorable Mentions

If I kept writing about why Florida is so great, I would be writing a book instead of a blog post. So here are some other reasons why Florida is the best state.

Manatees are the cows of the sea! They are an adorable mammal that we have here in Florida. Other cool animals include a Florida panther and alligators. St. Augustine is the city settlement in the United States. Taking a visit to this city, that used to be a Spanish settlement, is like being transported to the past. If you are a lover of space, you probably have heard of Cape Canaveral, which is a great location to launch rockets because it is close to the equator and next to a body of water.

One of the things we absolutely can’t forget about Florida is Fuse Lenses. If you’re searching for a pair of replacement lenses for your favorite frames, make sure to check out our collection.
