The Fuse Standard

Before we were Fuse, our founders spent years in the optical industry. Back then, high-quality replacement lenses for everyday sunglasses were hard to find, and batches of lenses cut from the same sheet of material were still the industry standard (P.S. they sucked).

We changed how replacement lenses were made with individual injection-molded Polycarbonate lenses that provide better optics, durability, and consistency. Over 14 years later, our mindset hasn't changed: challenge the standard, never settle for "good enough", and build better lenses available to everyone.

Frequently Asked Questions about Fuse Lenses

  • Yes, Fuse Lenses are designed to meet or exceed OEM-level standards.

Fuse Lenses are not OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) lenses, but are designed to match the fit and performance of your frame’s original lenses. They are designed and tested to meet or exceed OEM-level standards for optical clarity, durability, and overall quality.

Each pair of Fuse Lenses is precision-cut to order and made to fit the frame edge cleanly and stay securely in place. You can also choose a premium lens tier, Fuse PRO or Fuse AMP, for enhanced performance. Upgrades include features such as polarization, oleo-hydrophobic layers, anti-reflective coatings, and color-enhancing filters.

  • All Fuse lenses are made from Polycarbonate.

While many polarized sunglasses and aftermarket replacement lenses use TAC (Tri-Acetate Cellulose) lenses because they’re affordable and easy to manufacture, we chose polycarbonate for its superior performance.

Compared to TAC, Polycarbonate is up to 10 times more impact resistant, more durable, and provides a sharper, clear view. Unlike glass, Polycarbonate is significantly lighter and far less likely to break under impact. The result is a lightweight, high-performance replacement lens built for exceptional clarity, and durability made to last.

  • Fuse lenses are built to last for years with proper care.

Fuse lenses are built for long-lasting performance with durable materials and coatings designed to withstand everyday wear, outdoor conditions, and whatever adventures come your way. With proper care, your lenses can provide years of clear vision and reliable protection.

To help extend the life of your lenses, we recommend:

    • Use a microfiber cloth: Avoid shirts, towels, or rough fabrics that can create fine scratches over time.
    • Rinse before wiping: Remove dust, dirt, and debris with clean water before wiping to prevent scratching.
    • Use lens-safe cleaners: Avoid harsh chemicals like ammonia or household glass cleaners that can damage lens coatings.
    • Avoid excessive heat: Don’t leave sunglasses in hot cars or on dashboards, as extreme temperatures can affect lens coatings over time.
    • Store them properly: Keep your sunglasses in a protective case when not in use to prevent accidental scratches or damage.

That said, accidents happen. Even the most durable lenses can experience unexpected damage from everyday use. That’s why all Fuse lenses come with a lifetime warranty. Every lens purchase with Fuse Lenses comes with 1 FREE replacement with our Drop, Scratch, or Loss Protection. For the lifetime of your lenses, we’ll have your back - no matter what you put your lenses through.

  • All Fuse lenses are tested beyond standards for real-world performance in clarity, durability, and protection.

Every pair of Fuse replacement lenses are tested to ensure it performs in real-world conditions, not just in a laboratory. As a COLTS-trained testing lab, we evaluate everything from optical clarity and impact resistance to coating durability and environmental wear.

Our testing simulates the challenges lenses face every day: repeated cleaning, exposure to saltwater, extreme temperatures, and outdoor conditions. We test our coatings for long-term durability, measure clarity beyond standard requirements, and ensure our shatterproof polycarbonate lenses provide reliable protection. Learn more about our testing methods.

  • Yes! Easily install your lenses in minutes at home.

Fuse Replacement Lenses can be installed at home. Some frame styles may require an optical screwdriver for proper installation, which is available for purchase on our site.

    How to install your lenses:

    1. Remove the original lenses: Loosen (not remove) the screws that hold your lenses in place. From the inside of your frame, place both thumbs near the nasal section of the lens and press the lens outward. Tip: a soft cloth can improve grip and protect the lens surface.
    2. Prepare the new lenses: Clean the frame if needed, and then identify left and right replacement lenses. Set the new lens into the frame bevel from the outside.
    3. Press the lens into place: Start at one corner and work along the edge until it is seated fully in the frame. Then, use your optical screwdriver to tighten the screws for a perfect fit.

Want extra help? We’ve created a video tutorial playlist to guide you through installing lenses in any frame type like a pro. Or, you can leave the installation to us with our custom lens program.
