What Are Color Enhancing Lenses?
By now, you've probably heard about Color Enhancing lenses. But what are they really. and why should you get a pair?
How often do you replace your sunglasses? Honestly, probably more often than you need to. It’s rarely because the frames snapped in half. Most of the time, it’s the lenses. A random scratch, a cloudy spot, maybe the lenses start catching glare in a weird way, and suddenly, the whole pair feels “done.” So you replace them. Not because the frames failed, but because the lenses did.

Take a second and think about your last few pairs. Odds are, the frames were still perfectly wearable. Structurally fine, still your style, still comfortable. But the lenses? Lenses take the hit, literally. They’re the part exposed to sand, keys, drops, saltwater, dashboards, you name it. Over time, even high quality lenses can scratch, fade, or lose clarity. And once that happens, the entire pair feels like trash. So the default move is to toss the whole thing and start fresh. And that’s where the cycle begins.
On its own, replacing one pair of sunglasses doesn’t feel like a big deal. But multiply that by millions of people, year after year, and it starts to look different. Most sunglasses are made with plastic materials that are difficult to recycle and often end up as long term waste. Globally, plastic production has reached hundreds of millions of tons, and an estimated 70% of all plastic ever made still sits in landfills or the natural environment. Now factor eyewear into that. Even before a pair of sunglasses reaches your face, the manufacturing process itself can waste significant material. In some cases, up to 75% of raw acetate used for frames is discarded during production. Then think about the short lifecycle. Trends change, lenses scratch, people replace instead of repair. You’re not actually replacing sunglasses. You’re replacing your lenses the hard way.
What if the frame, the part that actually lasts, was worth keeping? Good frames can last years, sometimes way longer. They’re built to handle daily wear, they hold their shape, and if you picked them out, chances are you actually like how they look. So instead of tossing them the moment the lenses give out, there’s another option, Keep the frame, replace the lenses. Same pair, fresh vision, no waste from starting over. It’s a small shift, but it completely changes the lifecycle of your sunglasses.
This is where Fuse comes in. Instead of pushing people toward buying another pair every time something goes wrong, we focus on the part that actually needs replacing, the lenses. You keep the frames you already own. We custom cut and install new lenses that bring them back to life. It’s a simple idea, but it solves a very real problem. Together, we’ve saved 2 million pairs of sunglasses and counting. That’s about 100 tons kept out of the landfill Or 4 fully loaded semi-trucks kept out of the ground, not bad for just taking care of your gear. Because once you separate lenses from frames, there’s really no need to toss them. We even took it a step further, our new and improved Egmont frame is entirely made of bio-based G850. This material is not only lighter, tougher, and more flexible than before, but it’s also made of plants, not petroleum.

A lot of environmental impact comes from smaller, everyday habits. The kind you don’t think twice about, like replacing something that could’ve been fixed. Keeping a product in use longer, especially something like plastic sunglasses that don’t need to be fully replaced, cuts down on new production, reduces waste, and lowers overall impact. And you don’t have to change your entire lifestyle to do it, you just have to stop throwing out frames that still work.
The part we care about most is longevity. Not just getting another few months out of a pair, but actually extending its life in a way that’s noticeable. That’s why we back what we do with a 1 time lifetime replacement warranty. You replace them once, and you’re covered for the next time life happens. Scratches, wear, whatever comes your way.

Replacing just the lenses on your sunglasses is an easy way to cut down on waste.
You don’t need to suddenly eliminate all plastic from your life overnight. Earth Day isn’t about doing everything, it’s about doing something that makes sense and sticking with it. If you’ve got a pair of frames ready to be thrown out because the lenses gave out, they’re probably not done. Just replace the lenses.
