Different Types of Sunglass Lenses

Sunglasses are an essential accessory to protect our eyes from harmful UV rays, glare and bright light. The lenses themselves play a crucial role in providing the necessary protection and enhancing visual clarity. There are various types of sun glass lenses available in the market, each with unique features and benefits. So, let’s break down the differences between all of them.

Polarized Lenses

Polarized lenses are specially treated to reduce that bright glare you get sometimes while wearing sunglasses. They work by blocking light reflecting off things like water, glass or metal, which is responsible for glare. Their polarized lens coating is what allows them to deflect light, making them perfect for almost anyone who spends time outdoors. Not only do they have this special coating, they also still offer UV protection while fighting glare.

Mirrored Lenses

Mirrored lenses also have a special coating that helps control light, but in a pretty different way. Mirrored coating actually dampens the amount of light that comes into the lens, so you don't have to squint at the sun AND wear sunglasses. This coating also creates a mirror effect, basically making it possible to reflect your surroundings on the outside of the lens. This type of lens is popular for its stylish look and is ideal for pretty much any and all outdoor activities.

Gradient Lenses

Gradient lenses have a colored coating with a gradual transition from a dark to a lighter tint. This type of lens is perfect for those with sensitive eyes who require protection from bright light but still want to see clearly in other areas. You can find gradient lenses in many different colors, styles, and shapes, so there's something for everybody.

Photochromic Lenses

Why buy two pairs of glasses when you can just have one? Photochromic lenses are lenses that darken when exposed to UV light and lighten in low light conditions. This type of lens is perfect for those who want to switch between sunglasses and regular glasses without actually buying two separate pairs of glasses. You can even get prescription photochromic lenses, so you can switch between sunglasses and your reading glasses on a whim.

Prescription Sun glass Lenses

Prescription sun glass lenses are designed to provide both visual correction and protection from harmful UV rays, debris, bugs and dirt. They are ideal for those who require prescription glasses and want to enjoy the benefits of sunglasses while still being able to see.
